Chivalry is Hot
Dear Diary,
I'm going to tell you about when I started thinking Chivalry Is Hot!!
It all started on a rainy day. I went to a job and the gentleman I was seeing asked me to call him once I arrived in the carpark. I did as he asked. He came out with an umbrella to my car, opened the door for me, took my bag and walked me to the house covering me with the umbrella the entire time.
I was speechless, I felt warm, special and cared for.
I have to admit I didn't always think chivalry was hot. In the past I believed because I was independent and strong I didn’t need anyone to do things for me. This included the acts of chivalry anyone, including my partners, did for me. It would make me angry and I would say: “I can open the door myself” or “I can carry my own bags…” I thought it was taking away my independence as if I was a child or weak and couldn’t do things on my own.
But now I can see the beauty in it. It is showing they care and they want to be able to help you. Now I think, yes, please do open the door for me. Yes! Please carry my bags. Thank you! It feels so good and it makes me feel special and it makes the guy feel he has done something nice for you. To be honest it is sometimes hard though, like when someone gives way for me to go first, there are times when I unconsciously hesitate for one second, then I quickly say thank you and go first ...
As far as gender roles go, I feel we have levelled up so much, not only do we give birth and create life, as well as take care of the household and the emotional side of things. We now go to work, make money and can be fully independent. So what is a man’s role in all this … Let them open a door for f<3*s sake!…
P.S. I recently went shopping with my dad (something I hadn’t done in years!) And he carried all the shopping bags and boxes. It was so cute!
Thank you to all the chivalrous people in my life, even in the past when I didn't appreciate your acts, I do now :)
Love Lily
