I met Layla for the first time earlier this year. I wasn’t at my best; I’d had a difficult few weeks or more in my life, and I confess that I considered cancelling our scheduled date. How could I be in a ‘mental space’ to make it worth my while?
The date went ahead, and the answer to the question is that Layla made it worth my while. She was what I needed, from the moment I saw her sashaying towards me in a brilliant-coloured dress, to a face that was as welcoming as it was beautiful. We had dinner, and this might be the part where I’m expected to say that every moment until we went back to her apartment was a torment, but I was happy to simply be in that moment and to be in her company.
We worked through the menu, ordered too much, and we found a place where we spoke about our lives and I felt connected to the lovely vision across from me, who I’d only known in emails and a profile. Layla was generous in what she gave of herself, and her quirkiness and intelligence ensure that she has plenty to give. She was proof again that there can be intimacy in brief moments.
The conversation and connectedness didn’t end when physical closeness began. I suppose there are things which I prefer to keep to myself, but this is a ‘testimonial’ and so I am happy to testify that my enjoyment of her mind led straight to the enjoyment of her body.
In the end we are only left with memories, but some – such as my evening with Layla – leave me feeling richer. I ‘recommend’ her, but more than anything I want to thank her.
