Sex workers should be colleagues, not competition.

I want to touch on something that I think is often overlooked in the sex work industry - in an industry where people are mostly sole traders, why do so many sex workers see each other only as competition, and not colleagues?

When I started escorting, I had a fair few friends who did it. I felt like they were my colleagues. I had a good amount of people I could turn to for support. In my previous career in the financial services industry, my colleagues were literally what helped me get through the tough times. Fast forward 14 months from when I first joined the sex work (SW) community, and now a lot of my friends have left the industry, or are actively trying to leave it. Lately, I've made the decision to go face out and start to transition into the digital content space (not fully, but as a supplement). So not only have I lost my former colleagues, but I'm now entering an entirely new community, of which I know no one - the online SW community.
