escort diary® of Emi Laurentis: Too Pretty to Be This Philosophical?
Being Desired Is Easy. Being Interesting Is Harder.
I’ve been thinking lately about how much effort we put into being attractive.
The hair, the makeup, the outfits, the perfume.
And don’t get me wrong, I love all of it. Being French, I believe in elegance, good perfume and spending unreasonable amounts of money on things I probably don't need.
But I’ve realised something.
Being attractive and being interesting are two completely different things.
You can be beautiful and incredibly boring. You can also be completely ordinary-looking and have the kind of personality that makes someone forget what time it is.
And personally, I find the second much more fascinating.
I’ve met all sorts of people. Successful people, wealthy people, incredibly good-looking people. People with impressive careers, beautiful watches and the confidence of someone who has never questioned a single decision in their life.
And sometimes, I find myself hoping the conversation will surprise me as much as the person initially did.
Terrible, I know.
But intelligence is genuinely attractive to me. And I don’t necessarily mean academic intelligence. You don’t need three university degrees or the ability to explain quantum physics over dinner.
Although, if you can explain quantum physics after two glasses of champagne, I’m listening.
I mean curiosity. Humour. Self-awareness. The ability to question your own opinions. To laugh at yourself. To have an actual thought that hasn’t been borrowed from someone else’s Instagram caption.
I love people who surprise me.
Someone who can go from discussing something completely ridiculous to something unexpectedly profound in the space of five minutes.
Because that’s exactly how my own brain works.
One minute I’m wondering whether I’ve ordered too many clothes. The next I’m questioning whether free will actually exists.
Both feel equally urgent at the time.
Of course, I’m not suggesting I’m some extraordinary intellectual creature. I’ve made enough questionable decisions to disqualify myself from giving anyone a lecture on wisdom.
But at least I’m curious.
And I think curiosity is underrated.
We’re living in a world where everyone seems desperate to be noticed, admired, desired. We spend so much time thinking about how we’re perceived that sometimes I wonder how much time we actually spend becoming someone worth knowing.
And perhaps that’s the funny part.
We can spend hours perfecting our appearance, but we can’t apply a little concealer to a lack of personality.
Trust me, if that product existed, it would sell out immediately.
I enjoy feeling beautiful. I enjoy being desired. I’m not going to pretend otherwise.
But I’d hate to think that being attractive was the most interesting thing about me.
I’d much rather someone remember an unexpected conversation, something ridiculous I said, a strange question I asked, or the fact that we laughed so much we completely lost track of time.
Beauty might make someone look twice.
But a good mind makes them want to know what happens next.
And personally, I’d rather be someone’s most interesting conversation than just another pretty face.
Although ideally, I’d like to be both.
I’m ambitious, not unreasonable.
