One of the most interesting things about what I do is the variety of people I meet.
Different ages.
Different careers.
Different relationship statuses.
Different lives.
On paper, many of them have very little in common.
Yet after meeting enough people, I’ve noticed something that surprises me less and less every year.
Most people are craving connection.
Not necessarily romance.
Not necessarily sex.
Connection.
Someone to laugh with.
Someone to share a meal with.
Someone to tell a story to and know they’re actually listening.
Someone who is fully present for a little while.
I think loneliness is one of the most common experiences people have, yet one of the least talked about.
Because loneliness doesn’t always look the way people think it does.
Sometimes it’s obvious.
Sometimes it’s hidden behind a busy career, a packed social calendar, a marriage, a family, or a life that appears full from the outside.
I’ve met people who have everything society tells us we’re supposed to want, yet still admit they feel disconnected.
And, I understand it.
We live in a world where we’re constantly connected to everyone, yet genuinely present with very few.
Messages are shorter.
Attention spans are smaller.
Everyone is busy.
Everyone is rushing somewhere.
Real connection has become surprisingly rare.
Maybe that’s why I appreciate it so much when it happens.
Whether it’s a long conversation over dinner, a road trip, a few hours spent exploring a new city, or simply sitting together and talking about life.
The details don’t matter nearly as much as the feeling.
The feeling of being seen.
Of being heard.
Of not having to perform for a moment.
What I’ve learned through this work is that people are often far more alike than they are different.
Beneath the careers, the titles, the achievements, and the carefully constructed versions of ourselves, most of us are searching for the same thing.
To feel understood.
To feel wanted.
To feel connected.
And maybe that’s why human connection remains one of the most valuable things we’ll ever have.
